Overview

QlikView is unlike any other business intelligence application on the market. So simple and intuitive to use, it takes just minutes to learn – and delivers industrial strength power to meet the largest enterprise requirements. QlikView is about serving up answers in an instant, on screen, without having to wait around for any report. It’s about having 1-click access to visually rich, interactive dashboards that you can build quickly and modify easily.

QlikView is rated by IDC as the world’s fastest growing business intelligence software for the last three years, while Gartner recognise QlikView as a BI ‘Visionary’. QlikView simplifies business analysis and delivers value fast for better decision making. To understand how QlikView is different we first need to look at traditional BI software solutions.

Traditional BI applications are based on OLAP hypercubes or one–dimensional formatted reporting. OLAP–limits users to a few dimensions for analysis, which must be pre–defined in development by technical experts over many months with redefinition time–consuming. This approach is usually expensive while the user interface is complicated for non–IT people. If you want to ask questions of a different data set you need to look at another cube or reverse out what you’re doing and start again.

QlikView’s underlying technology works in a different way. QlikView allows you to freely explore related information for better insight and accurate answers, using its unique patented, in–memory association technology (Associative Query Logic or AQL). QlikView builds and maintains a non–relational, associative and highly efficient database residing in a computer’s RAM that is immediately available offline down to source transactions. The result is powerful analytic capabilities provided through a highly intuitive user interface that encourages exploration and creativity. Metrics are calculated ‘on the fly’ as the user performs ad hoc, point and click analysis, and because the data is associated, you can ask questions in any order and the one application will give the answer. QlikView interactively analyses millions of records in seconds and scales from a few to thousands of users easily.

The result is that QlikView applications provide intuitive, visual self–serve analysis of organisational performance in dashboards and reporting that are simple to use, powerful and delivering value in weeks – far quicker and easier to use than any traditional BI approach.

How QlikView came to life

QlikView was based on a bright idea in response to a customer’s need to analyse multi–dimensional data, leading to the development of a new type of business intelligence (BI) software by QlikTech in Sweden in 1993. They called this new software QlikView because it provided a point–and–click simple way to view data.  QlikView is now a global phenomenon with over 13,000 customers including 300 in Australia since 2003. The founders of Inside Info could see that the time, cost and complexity of traditional BI software was underwhelming. They chose to change this in 2003, introducing QlikView to Australia, developing QlikView applications that greatly simplify how businesses measure and analyse business performance.
